The ProDuncPAC.com mayoral poll for Duncanville shows some surprising results:

Former District 3 Councilman Paul Ford, who hasn't announced publicly whether he intends to seek the top job, leads Mayor David Green by a 67%-33% margin. The poll isn't scientific, but it only allows one vote per user per every seven days.

Duncanville Would Allow Felons to Serve on City Boards

Duncanville's city boards and commissions would and could be filled with convicted felons under a buried policy change in Focus Daily News' latest article from Rita Cook:

While reviewing the Board and Commission Appointment/Reappointment Guidelines, the City Council determined that they did not wish to exclude applicants from consideration because of a previous felony conviction. Therefore, it was decided to develop additional guidelines related to this particular question. The City Council concluded that, in addition to an interview with the City Council (which is required of all new applicants), a background check would be required for any applicant with a felony conviction.”

I say "buried" because that hugely newsworthy item/paragraph was buried way down in the story.
Some people can go to prison for all sorts of things, from securities fraud to smuggling Cuban cigars, so I understand that Duncanville would not want to exclude people based off of felonies (I don't agree that felons can't vote...everyone should vote), but I think that perhaps this policy change is the result of two things:

The old white men who run Duncanville might one day go to prison for the corruption they're to their eyeballs with and want to keep their seats warm;
The old white men who run Duncanville don't want to appear racist towards at-large Councilwoman Dorothy "Planting Dirty Underwear on Co-Workers" Burton, who is black.

Grady Smithey Supports Property Tax Hike

his position and stated that it was not a matter of whether taxes were going to be raised, but when.
If my memory serves me correct, in 2004, A group calling themselve, "Citizens for more shopping and less taxes", convinced our voters to approve beer and wine sales, in our community,suggesting that the increased tax revenue would result in lower taxes. That did not happen.
Also as a dry community, Duncanville had very little crime. Since we voted wet crime has significantly increased.

Agenda Item 5C. Approval of an expenditure of 4B funds in the amount of $135,000 for Main Station improvements.

This represents yet another gift of taxpayer money to Monte Anderson, the primary owner of Main Station.
In my opinion, Monte Anderson, along with Dalton Lott, is also one of the primary beneficiaries of the millions of dollars in taxpayer money the City is spending on the Main Street Vision Development Plan. In addition to Main Station, Monte Anderson owns the Center Street Condo Project, the Church Building on Main Street next to Main Station, and at least two other buildings on Main Street at the center of the Plan.
Currently, the 4B Board owns 32% of Main Station and is supposed to receive 32% of the profits. One wonders -- will this new gift by the 4B Board increase the 4B Board's ownership percentage? Not that it really matters -- last time I checked, Main Station has yet to pay ONE CENT of profit to the 4B Board.

Duncanville City Employees Harass Sign Holders @ Library

When I fly into Dallas next week for some business related matters, I'll stand out in front of that Duncanville library with yard signs and we'll see if they ask me to leave.

I guarantee that'll be the biggest mistake that city employee ever makes...I'm waiting for our blood to be so boiled that these city officials start getting visited at home. I'd take 50 people with yard signs and picket this piece of crap's home (in front of it, on a sidewalk of course.)

Lawsuits won't work. We need about 50-75 citizens that are tired of this harassment fascism crap.

Duncanville, Texas is still in the United States of America, last I checked.

Did you know that a friend of mine is helping with Buck's campaign at the library by standing and holding one of his signs and she was told that she would have to leave the area? According to Greg Contreras, an employee of City of Duncanville Code Compliance her sign was too big. Mr. Contreras did not take the time to measure the sign but he did take the time to get out of his car on his way to work and forced my friend Marie to remove the sign and told her to leave the area. Now where we do have a city codes and we did comply with those codes, he had no authority to bully this young lady. Today, when she went back and we convinced Marie to continue helping us, Mr. Conteras returned and measured the sign and told Marie she was ok but could only hold the sign up no higher than three feet off the ground. In this day and age when we are able to get folks to help us, especially young folks and for them to have to endure such behavior is plain wrong. In addition to this, Marie was heckled by two ladies screaming and taking photos of her and asking "how much is he paying you to do that"? With her reply that she is a volunteer. One of the ladies that Marie described was a fair skin black female with short red hair and hazel brown eyes, my, my that description certainly fits someone we all know. When Buck went in to vote yesterday he was told by the election officials to remove his Dallas County Reserve Medical Corp badge that had his name on it and get this he was the only voter in the room at that time and was told if he did not remove the badge he would not be allowed to vote. Well it is official folks it does not get any sillier than some folks. All in all it would be greatly appreciated if you would email to all of your friends and family to get them out to vote for Buck Werner for City Council At Large - Duncanville. Because one still has to ask themselves, why are there people still trying to stop Buck Werner?

Duncanville City Council Chambers was a packed house April 23 for the Candidates Forum hosted by the Duncanville Chamber of Commerce and Rotary Club. Residents had the opportunity to meet with candidates vying for seats on the Duncanville School Board and the Duncanville City Council.

Moderated by Dr. Jim Tilger, each candidate was given three minutes to provide an opening statement, one minute to address each question and one and a half minutes for a closing statement. Unopposed candidates, Councilman Ken Weaver of District 1 and Place 7 boardmember Dr. Deborah Harris, were given the opportunity to provide statements, but declined to address the public.

Timothy Miles, candidate for Duncanville School Board Place 6, announced his concern for the district's long-term debt. He said his 15 years experience as a restaurant manager has prepared him for leadership, where as a boardmember he will serve as the “eyes and ears” of the taxpayers and his “watchful eyes” will assist in solving the population growth dilemma.

Miles stated that not only will he be a great leader he will serve as a “fiscal watchdog.”

“We are heading in very historic times,” he said regarding the district's debt, adding that he has been “thinking outside the box.” He mentioned that win or lose, he plans to discuss with Superintendent Alfred Ray his ideas about how the energy plan and stimulus bill will produce solar wind power. He added the time has come for a “reexamination of the school tax exemptions afforded the church.”

Incumbent Dorothy Wolverton said her experience serving as boardmember along with community involvement makes her a qualified candidate for Place 6 and believes she has a “feel for what the community wants.”

Wolverton, who served the last three years as board president, said there are concerns the district should be focused on including the continuous changing of technology, effective use of taxpayers' dollars, improvements in better education and other goals all “require teamwork.”

“We have that team in place along with Superintendent Alfred Ray,” she said adding the current board has been successful because not only do they work well together, but they care about keeping children first.

Wolverton mentioned concerns about the district's dropout rate and her anxiety for school funding saying the district receives less money than Coppell ISD, whose district is the same size as Duncanville, Cedar Hill and DeSoto ISDs.

Vying for the District 3 seat are Paul Ford and Anthony Skinner, both who have prior experience serving on the city council.

In his opening statement, Skinner, who served on the council from 2005-07 and a Duncanville resident for more than 30 years, said while serving on the council, he was able to build a “workable and powerful relationship” between councilmembers, city staff and the citizens of District 3.

He commented on his achievements saying not only did he help build a major hotel and expand the community theater, he also brought tax revenue to the city, assist in cutting property taxes all of which relieved tax burdens of citizens.

Ford, a Duncanville resident for more than 15 years, mentioned during his statement that he has been “dedicated to the people” by his votes against wasteful spending and in banning red light cameras. He said his work to create an “openness and transparency” in the city government is something he has promised and delivered to the citizens of Duncanville.

Ford said that if re-elected, he would push for Duncanville to be a low crime, low tax, effectively run suburban city, returning it to the “basic principles of city government.”

“Those principles are city governments that live within its means,” he said. “Efficient city services to live in and a city leadership dedicated to doing what's best for the people it's selected to serve.”

Both expressed agreement regarding the expansion of local businesses to increase the city's economic growth, with Skinner stating the city must “aggressively pursue” businesses to fill the empty spaces, something he pushed for during his term. Ford retorted saying local businesses are the “core and backbone” of the community.

Ford also mentioned his concern that too much time and taxpayer money has been spent on “pie in the sky” ventures such as the retail spaces and condominiums.

Johnette Jameson, who is being challenged by Gerald Hill for the District 5 seat, mentioned her achievements as councilmember, working to remove graffiti and her successful negotiation of the I-20 service roads.

“I've continued to increase my knowledge and improve my understanding to better serve my community,” she said, and said she has been able to do her accomplishments by keeping an open dialogue. “I support economic development in Duncanville along with the requirements of an acceptable return on your tax dollars.”

Years working for AT&T have prepared her for the role of directing large groups of people, Jameson said. She said she has developed relations with state representatives, senators and councilmembers of other cities, creating open lines of communication.

Hill said he understands the concerns of District 5 residents and will fight for their voice to be heard. His background of leadership in running a small business qualifies him to be councilmember. He said the city must use the assets it has successfully and not spend what it doesn't have and also find ways to entice new residents into Duncanville.

He said he has walked the neighborhoods of District 5 and talked with people who are afraid of losing their “motive life in a unique area.”

Both candidates believed cooperation between the other Best Southwest cities is successful and the relationship can always be strengthened. Jameson mentioned the Logistics Hub that could bring in 60,000 jobs to the area. Hill added the Tri-City Animal Shelter along with local police and fire departments is proof of the unity between the BSW, saying “sharing is the only way.”

While Buck Werner was unable to attend the forum to protest his qualifications as Councilmember At-Large, his presence was made with representative from his campaign present, issuing out flyers and pamphlets.

Dorothy Burton said the election race is about the citizens and the future of the city. She asked audience members to look around the room and see the face of someone who might be affected by job loss or an economic crisis, saying “daunting days are ahead” as we are faced with “unforeseen challenges in our lifetime.”

She said that while serving as councilmember at-large for the last six years she has put “people above politics,” adding a leader is someone who has been tested and comes out tried and true.

Burton stated that regardless of the economic issues, “a house divided cannot stand,” adding the city must work closely “hand in hand.”

She closed her statement saying throughout her campaigning process, she has “focused on the positive.”

“We may be a little bruised,” she said, “but one thing we know about champions is that we know how to get back up again.”

The forum concluded with Tilger thanking each candidate for participating and a reminder that early voting runs through May 5. Election Day takes place May 9.

Councilwoman Dorothy Burton: 'This is Above My Pay Grade' on Illegal Aliens

In The Dallas Morning News city council questionnaire, Duncanville Mayor Pro-Tem Dorothy Burton, already in heat over planting two pairs of soiled, bloodied women's underwear of an ex-co worker in an office - a stunt she was fired over - during her days at Dallas Area Rapid Transit - answered a question on illegal immigration with a now-famous requote of our president:

DMN: Some cities have taken an aggressive stance against illegal immigration. What changes in local laws, if any, should your city adopt to address this issue?

Dorothy Burton: This is above my paygrade. Not ducking the issue at all, but in my opinion, this is and always has been a federal government issue, not a municipal one.

By doing the stunt with the women's underwear, I'm guessing she wasn't paid very much at DART either. So, is this what it meant when former Duncanville Mayor Glenn Repp reportedly told a former councilman at Starbucks one day that Burton was "going black on us [Pro-Dunc PAC]?"

Duncanville Councilwoman/Mayor Pro-Tem Dorothy Burton will have a very interesting time tonight at the Duncanville candidate debate.

The Ellis County Press hit news stands today, and its Web site, EllisCountyPress.com, now has the entire issue up online.

Page 3 — which is where my Freedom of the Press column is carried — has Burton’s soiled Dallas Area Rapid Transit past in print.

The Best Southwest Dallas County area has two newspapers - Today and Focus Daily News, where I got my start in journalism in 1999. Both papers have just been punked out by a paper not fully in their coverage area. Sucks to be them. Cover-ups have no place in journalism, which is why the newspaper industry is being shredded to bits.

Readers, feel free to send in your photos and video of the distribution of our papers at tonight’s debate, or just of the debate in general. I know for a fact one of the Duncanville activists picked up 50 copies of the ECP to hand-deliver to folks.

Burton has never been held accountable for her DART past. The documents are public record, and so is her DART employment history.

She was fired for the stunt she pulled. And hopefully on May 9, voters will fire her from the mayor pro-tem spot.

Duncanville Police Follow Paul Ford While Campaigning

The Duncanville Police Department, acting on alleged directives from its chief and possibly City Manager Kent Cagle, had an officer follow controversial District 3 Councilman Paul Ford to a senior citizens center when the incumbent councilman, who was arrested at the last Duncanville council meeting, was campaigning.

Ford faces former councilman Anthony Skinner in the May 9 election.

The identity of the officer who followed Ford is not known currently, but when we do find out, his TCLEOSE records will be made public and he will be followed.

Is this really that necessary? Come on people. Ford is an outspoken activist on the city council, he isn't a terrorist.

I think Duncanville PD ought to be dismantled and a new team be brought in to shape those guys up.

Ford is a vocal opponent of the city's red light cameras. His Web site, PaulFordReports.com, has exposed numerous upon numerous of conflict of interest votes and decisions made by his council colleagues.

Do you know where the Paul Ford campaign begain? Probably not… but check this ONE THING out… We (Duncanville taxpayers) paid a church $500,000 for a piece of property located at the intersection of I-20 and Main… this property was on the DCAD for $49,000.00…Why did Duncanville (taxpayers) pay 10 times the value… NO ONE knows.. I myself have asked for an appraisal and was told that none was available… BUT it gets better… later… the city of Duncanville taxpayers) GAVE… LET ME MAKE THIS CLEAR>>> GAVE… the property to Paramount Properties… check it out… they have a for sale sign on the property… and you can view it on the internet… it is for sale for $1 million+… and WE GAVE IT TO THEM… WHY??? BURIED… try asking Mayor Green… Kent Cagle… and I guarantee you will recieve a personal profile on your life… I mean… if you ever farted in church… it will be brought out… THIS is the tactic that our PRO-DUNC… (otherwise known as … using our money for their own gain… as we sleep) ACT. Dorothy Burton's Emotional Strategy Won't Work This Time Around

Councilwoman Dorothy Burton, the mayor pro-tem, won't be able to use her emotional pull the way she did in 2007's election:

“My parents abandoned me when I was 6-months-old, I was sexually abused as a girl and sexually assaulted at 16. I decided to work my way and go to school, some days I didn't even know where I was going to stay or what I was going to have to eat, but I didn't quit. And I'm asking you not to quit on me. We've come too far, and we have too far to go.”

This is sad, but unfortunately this has no bearing on how a councilperson or a taxpayer-funded public servant should act. The disgusting act of Burton placing soiled, bloodied women's underwear for co-workers to see when she was at DART isn't going to fly.

And neither will Burton's emotional problems.

Rumors coming out of Duncanville say that incumbent Councilwoman Dorothy Burton, the city's mayor pro-tem, is set to drop out of the race due to the embarrassing personnel file records from her employment at Dallas Area Rapid Transit that came to light this week on The Ellis County Observer and BestSouthwestBlog.com.

In case readers are new to the blogs, or don't know about Burton's firing at DART, here is what we have so far:

Burton, who is seeking re-election on May 9, was fired for a sexual harassment and hostile environment complaint filed by a co-worker. The allegation(s)? Current Duncanville Councilman Scott Cannon wrote a letter to then-District 4 Councilwoman Deborah Hodge that an "examination of my life would reveal many mistakes and un-Christ like behavior."

The letter was mailed to BestSouthwestBlog.com and The Ellis County Press newspaper.

There are/were rumors about Cannon's lewd behavior charges from Dallas County criminal records, so the publishing of this letter should clarify and substantiate those. Cannon should be respected at least for admitting to his past conduct. When I was 22, I ran for Midlothian school board and my campaign literature was rife with admissions of past "sins," but I'm not sure the extent Cannon made this public.

Duncanville Mayor David Green is a tyrant. He is a cut-throat power-hungry control freak. The Duncanville City Council reportedly does not utilize Robert's Rules of Order, given the fact that Green arbitrarily canceled a publicly posted meeting because city officials took a taxpayer-financed trip to Washington, D.C.

At the April 7 council meeting, District 3 Councilman Paul Ford is arrested -- arrested! -- for disrupting a council meeting. Ford is no stranger to controversy, but to have a sitting councilman - an elected official running for re-election no less - arrested is beyond overstepping boundaries.

Paul Ford could definitely loosen his past/previous outbursts where Green has called Ford out of order, but this is America, where political debate is to flourish. If Green can get away with breaking a Texas Open Meetings Act law by canceling a publicly posted meeting, Ford did nothing wrong. What rules are these guys following? It's rule by fiat in Duncanville.

What the media calls a "shortfall" those in the real-world call "overspending."

With the economy in the ditch, the heavily Democratic Duncanville now has a deficit of $1 million and counting.

$1,100,000 City Budget Deficit

At the City Council Budget Workshop on Monday, March 30, City Manager Kent Cagle stated the City was running a $1,100,000 deficit for this budget year. What's that flapping sound you hear? Oh, just the chickens coming home to roost. . .

I know home appraisals are down, but -- just like a working man or woman, just like a family -- when you squander what you have when you have it, when the hard times hit you're in trouble.

Mr. Cagle presented the Council with a list entitled "Budget Reductions made by Management" that included the following cuts and the estimated savings from each:

1. Salaries & Benefits (Frozen Positions/Vacancies): $326,020

2. Training/Travel/Conference: $31,447

3. Fleet Replacement Contribution: $140,426

4. Asphalt Overlay (to be paid out of Street CIP Fund): $140,000

5. Crack Sealing: $80,000

6. Signs & Pavement Marking: $33,181

7. Signal Maintenance: $60,283

8. Library Books: $40,000

9. Color change out: $52,400 (Note: This has to do with planting and maintaining seasonal flowers and other greenery.)

10. Alarm Billing: $24,550

11. Other Reductions (Supplies, Dues, etc.): $61,143

Mr. Cagle also mentioned the possibility of furloughs -- unpaid holidays -- for non-civil service employees. Each day employees stay home allegedly saves the City about $22,882. In addition, Mr. Cagle mentioned -- without specifying the estimated savings -- the possibility of closing the Library/Recreation Center one or two days a week, changing employee health benefits, and reducing the City Council budget.

I have requested itemizations of these budget cuts and will keep you posted.

[Steve] Madison Field & $209,000 of Worthless Property

From District 3 Councilman Paul Ford's Web site comes these startling revelations about more Duncanville corruption:

Many of you have received one of their postcards entitled, “Does your representative support a robust Duncanville?” For more about that postcard, go to http://paulfordreports.com/6101.html.
“Pro-Dunc” seems to consist of people who are trying to get money from the City and their friends/employees. First, there are developers who want to get City grants or loans. Second, those who hope to get some of the subcontracting work from those developers as part of the deal. And third, those who own commercial buildings and want the City to use taxpayer money to improve the infrastructure around their buildings -- streets, sidewalks, road re-configurations -- that they hope will boost the value of their properties or the rents they can charge.

What does "Pro-Dunc" want? A compliant City Council that will give them access to your taxpayer money.

The single largest contributor to this group is Dalton Lott. Dalton Lott hosted a party for this group at his home last spring. Dalton Lott also owns at least seven commercial buildings right in the middle of the Main Street Vision Development Plan, a plan that will cost taxpayers between $3,000,000 and $7,000,000.

Wow, and Steve Madison has the nerve to even so much as attempt to think and say that there isn't any "corruption." Of course not, Steve. Corrupt people don't consider themselves corrupt.

This goes for supporters of yours, as well. Madison is the Big Fish. And we're going to catch him and fry him and dismantle his entire network of "Good Old Boys."

That pretty much leaves us with the rest of the Duncanville City Council to play with, and former elected officials.

District 2 Duncanville City Councilman Scott Cannon (above), former Mayor Glenn Repp and current Mayor David Green have some major explaining to do.

Seems as though Councilman Cannon's last opponent got threatened with all sorts of mental, personal, social harm if she went forward with information about Cannon's alleged "lewd conduct" background.

So says a few comments over at BSWCitizen.com:

Did you hear that Scott Cannon has two lewd charges against him that goes back in the 80s? [Name Removed] knew about it when she was running against him in District 2 but did not want to bring it out to the public. You can pull up his criminal record - it is there. How can someone who has a criminal record be on the Council? I personally feel that this should have been brought out and we tried to convince [candidate]. Also, Mayor David Green went up to [candidate's] job at the DHS and threatened her about dropping out. He told her that it would ruin her life. This can be substantiated by the employees that work with [the candidate] as it got very loud. Also Scott Cannon wrote her a letter as well.

Well, well, well.

Too bad this didn't come out earlier. Maybe folks should start contacting First United Methodist Church in Duncanville -- Cannon's home church, according to his Duncanville City Council bio --- to see if the congregation supports an alleged pervert.

The spillover effect in Districts 3 and 5 - which are contested this year - will be felt because of these allegations.

Cannon is on our watch list. So much as the wrong look at a taxpayer and he won't even know what hit him.

The Bio also states that Cannon started the Swan Ridge Residents Association. Does anyone know where Cannon lives? Perhaps the Swan Ridge neighborhood should have a "lit drop" (literature) of materials exposing this information...

A few years ago, they remodeled the original store and after remodeling they applied for a grant from the 4B board to reimburse them. Well, they did it backwards as they should have applied first before the remodel and they were refused. This time when they purchased the old “Orange Tree” store and opened it up to include additional square feet. the city says Okay, now you have added more square feet and according to the ordinances, you have to install an overhead sprinkler system for the whole store. This added considerable $’s to their original budget. They applied to the 4B Board for the grant to help with these additional expenses. This money comes from sales tax reimbursed to each city from the State and it can only be used for purposes such as this. This was perfectly legal.

This does help to beautify the City as well and I think that it is a good thing! I hope this helps to clarify some doubts.

Ben Franklin is the best looking store in Duncanville and it certainly sets off the center of Main Street.

The longer we have our cities compete against private corporations and operate with the same functions as private corporations, we will always have corporate welfare. 4A/4B, tax abatements and the like are nothing more than corporate slush funds designed - by statute - to operate like a private corporation.

Cities are municipal corporations in the Texas Constitution. So, the longer we allow our cities to operate like a corporation, we will always have city councils to dole out taxpayer funds to recruit businesses.

This is a incestuous relationship, but it's a fact of life. Until we get the state Legislature to change it, we will always have corporate welfare.

Steve Madison: But Everyone Else Does It

Who Gives Scott Cannon Authority to Play Code Enforcer?

Another tidbit of info from Duncanville District 3 Councilman Paul Ford's PaulFordReports.com Web site is this:

Last summer, Code Enforcement employees issued over a hundred warning notices and citations to persons in Councilman Scott Cannon’s neighborhood. The notices and citations were for grass of any length growing in sidewalk cracks. Code Enforcement allegedly acted on the direct orders of Cannon and City Manager Kent Cagle.

If this is true, Scott Cannon should be prosecuted. The only power a councilman has is when he is seated with a quorum in official business. If Cannon or whoever wanted to go "enforce" anything, by law he can only do so as a member of the whole council, not individually.

Unless of course Duncanville operates under their own de facto law.

Grady Smithey's Conflict of Interest Vote on the Logistics Hub

Now we're getting somewhere. Over on PaulFordReports.com, District 3 Councilman Paul Ford explains his vote against an issue dealing with the southern Dallas County Logistics Hub:

1. “Logistics Hub”

This was actually a vote to pay $10,000 in taxpayer money to join the International Inland Port of Dallas Coalition. The actual recipient of the $10,000 was road lobbying company Dean International. I voted against this because Councilmember Grady Smithey’s wife works for Dean International and I saw this as just another way to funnel taxpayer money to a well-connected insider.

So, if Smithey voted for this and this information is accurate, that is a conflict of interest. It's cronyism and yes, surprise, surprise, it's corrupt.

Smithey might be the "Road Warrior" on transportation issues, but he's as corrupt as anyone on that city council not in districts 3 and 5.

How Much $ Has Steve Madison Funneled to His Pet Projects?

You know, in DeSoto, former Mayor Roy Orr used his henchmen on the city's Economic Development Corp. in hopes of opening gambling casinos that Orr was pushing for as a lobbyist. A cop in the DeSoto Police Department thought this was corrupt and started investigating, before his nuts were chopped off from doing so.

Now it makes me wonder how much of a political mentorship that Duncanville's Steve Madison has had from Orr and the DeSoto cronies.

Hey Dorothy, That's Not the Point!

In a heated exchange between District 5 Councilwoman Johnette Jameson over a horribly controversial economic development director contract and At-Large Councilwoman Dorothy Burton, this red herring was issued:

Council member Johnette Jameson questioned why Mr. Jones' office is at City Hall despite his status as an independent contractor. But Ms. Burton jumped to Mr. Jones' defense.
"It's amazing we're even going through this," said Ms. Burton. "He has done not a good job, not a great job – a miraculous job."

We Need Deborah Hodge Back

Same news report from the 2008 elections as the one below (Mayor David Green vs. Rose Renfroe), but look at this stuff that former Councilwoman Deborah Hodge alluded to:

Hodge too alluded to the “good ol’ boy” network and said they would return to the “good ol’ boy days” if District 4 gets returned to them. She was an opponent of the Anthem housing development that Steve Madison brought before the council, saying the council was giving money to board members.

During that heated council debate, the city attorney said that an Attorney General’s ruling made a distinction between 4B board members like Madison had been and city board members. Hodge didn’t agree then and still doesn’t.

“We gave $209,000 out and we’re now being told this was a good deal for the taxpayer because for their $209,000 we are now getting $256,000 of infrastructure. Taxpayers, infrastructure collects zero tax revenue. That is not a benefit to the taxpayers of Duncanville.”

Things got even more heated when both candidates accused the other of campaign finance irregularities. Hodge said that Smithey had taken $2,000 from two transportation lobbyists.

Smithey said when he found the donations came from corporations, he gave the money back. Hodge countered that she didn’t know when he had done that but “may have had a change of heart” tonight.

With that door open, Smithey accused Hodge of not listing a $1,000 campaign contribution she had received. The incumbent said the donation came in after a March 31 report deadline but that she would report on the next scheduled date.

Wow. We need Deborah Hodge back on that council. She originally beat Grady Smithey by about four votes, and then lost the race last year to him by 40.

Smithey is a huge proponent (emphasis on huge, physically) of the Trans-Texas Corridor. He testified at numerous public hearings across the state on the issue.

There's something Hodge knows. She alluded to it. Now it's a matter of gleaning it from her and completely soaking these old, rich white guys with it ...publicly.

Well, no joke. Of course there isn't any of those things, alleged by his former mayoral opponent, Rose Renfroe, who shocked the hell out of Dallas County Democrats in '06 by beating their favorite hand-picked county commissioner candidate in the Dem primary to face Republican Kenneth Mayfield.

Why? Why can't Green have "experienced" that sorta thing in Duncanville? Because he's flipping tied to it.

You know, it's amazing. Corrupt people don't think they're corrupt. They just game and manipulate the system for so long it becomes normal for them.

It's like when the Soviets laughed at Americans' believing their own propaganda. They knew it worked real well after the Americans started believing their own lies.

You cannot get to be mayor without kissing up with someone prominent, being in someone's hip or being opposed to Steve Madison of ProDunc Political Action Committee.

So no wonder Green said what he said.

Pro-Dunc's Twisted Logic

I'm taking a play out of the Karl Rove strategy and attacking "Pro-Dunc" and their lack of logic.

My responses (Joey speaking here) are below each of their "beliefs."

By the way, readers can view the crappy Pro-Dunc Web site at Pro-Dunc.org.

1. Duncanville is already a great place to live and work. And if we all worked together, it could be even better.
BSWBlog: Yes, because consensus always helps. What was it that Margaret Thatcher said? Consensus is the absence of leadership.

2. Duncanville city government is fundamentally sound, and city employees are, like the rest of us, dedicated, hard working people. Certainly, there is always room for improvement. But there is no “evil agenda.”
BSWBlog: We'll let the readers and voters decide on this one. Of course, those who are evil and who have ulterior motives don't believe they're evil and they don't believe they have ulterior motives.

3. Everyone should have a voice in city government, including those who disagree with our point of view. But no one is entitled to spread lies, and make vicious personal attacks. This has to stop.
BSWBlog: Actually, the First Amendment of our federal Constitution allows for the spreading of lies, personal attacks, etc. This is completely hypocritical for Pro-Dunc to say: "Everyone should have a voice." Yeah, only if it's the voice making the rules! People who disagree with the way iconoclasts work will say that they are spreading lies and personal attacks. It's simply the truth (most, if not all, of the time.) But "no one is entitled" is itself a lie. Political players are allowed and Constitutionally protected to say whatever political speech they want. Of course, with such a big freedom, there comes a lot of consequences (try being a racist in Duncanville, a predominantly black town...and see where that gets you) of employing that freedom.

4. We believe in the council/manager form of city government. It works best when the council members work together for the best interests of the city as a whole.
BSWBlog: No, if this principle were true, there would not be individual council districts. This consensus, everyone-go-along-to-get-along is just a brainwashing technique. The best way to control a population is to control their minds. If you can control people, what they think, what they say and play up "consensus" and never agree to anti-conformity, then you get dull, stale, boring and oftentimes - if not all the time -- more corruption. Council members are not elected by districts to serve the best interests of the city as a whole. Think about it. If District 3 Councilman Paul Ford wants to give jury trials to people caught running red lights, that would benefit everyone in the city. Because hey, if it's a law that's been broken, you're by law entitled to face your accusers. However, Ford was the ass-end of a 6-1 vote, so his proposal didn't pass. So much for having the best interests of the city at heart. It's only the interests of those running the town. Don't confuse yourself. Working together all the time produces nothing. Consensus is a lack of leadership. Leadership requires making difficult decisions. Those who are offended by "personal attacks" and people like Ford ought not to be in politics. This is warfare, this isn't Candy Land.

5. We believe in telling the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. When our elected officials, don't meet this standard, we're going to set the record straight. And let the chips fall where they may. We don't call this “dirty politics”; we call it “telling the truth”!
BSWBlog: This is a flat-out lie. Pro-Dunc and anyone affiliated with the current majority on the Duncanville City Council (and those rich white guys who back them), don't give a shit about the "Truth" and "nothing but the truth." They'd rather shut people like Paul Ford up and get back to their consensus. Dirty politics is telling the truth. That's why it's so heated. In a pie chart, think of politics as 99 percent dishonest. One percent of that pie chart is honest, and for those who want to see honesty restored to political decisions. That 1 percent of truly honest people will always strike fear into the ones who are "in power."

Let's set the record straight by seeing the list of financial contributors in the past 10 city elections (hell, let's do it for every Best Southwest city/ISD) from and to candidates and officials. Let's start publishing the criminal records, the civil case records, the employment records, etc., of everyone.

Why doesn't Duncanville Today or the other Today papers actually investigate matters? Maybe it's because the same people who push the illogical crap on the Pro-Dunc Web site are the ones that control those advertising dollars, and we can't have any advertiser offended because their best friends who run the city are unethical pieces of corrupt garbage now can we?

I want to thank the user "fedup" over on Brian Allen's BSWCitizen.com blog for (a) making me cry because I laughed so hard, and (b) for spurring my enthusiasm to make this post.

I don't know who "fedup" is, but a lot of the humor is sparsed with truth. Now, with all due respect to Brian Allen, his blog serves the less extreme tactics by those (hence his threatening to cut that crap down), and that's perfectly fine. I respect Brian, and believe it or not, I respect and admire his former colleague, Steve Snyder.

The elections coming up will be very fun indeed. We will get to see how much of an effect these blogs will have on the elections...

Councilmen Centered in Criminal Conduct?

Over at Brian Allen's BSWCitizen.com blog, a user by the name of "fedup" alleges a couple of current/former Duncanville councilmen of having controversial criminal backgrounds. He also alleges a few other things from Duncanville Police Department's former PR guy. Not sure of the validity, but this needs to be shot down publicly or confirmed:

He must not have declared it, and the city did not check sufficiently, though all they had to do was look it up in county records. Also, the charge has to be in the county you are in, because most counties/towns can’t check outside their state, as far as I know. I am just trying to do the right thing, and let others know who they are electing. I still believe that keith kevin bilbrey is YOU Keith. He was born in 59, on sept 2, unless you have a twin. Ecch. But, again, I did not ask for a response, tho I’m sure you’ll give me one, cause you can’t help yourself. Your impulsivity runs in your baggy jeans. Keith, you last intimation, was that everything is rosy. I’m concerned about illegal ticketing, which is infringing on citizen’s civil rights, and considering accelerating a possible class action against the city and business that perpetuate this atrocity, and you think everything is rosy? The ice caps are melting, there is crime, pestilence, ignorance, famine, and global warming, yet you live in lala land. That explains a lot.

Just make sure that if you are going to make accusations of a criminal record that you are correct. I’ll speak to my case specifically. That IS NOT me and I’ve never been arrested. If you continue to make those accusations, you need to check the laws against defamation and libel.

And as much as I like Ford, I have viewed two videos now today and Ford is definitely out of line. I agree with his stances, but he is deliberately throwing up sand and he needs to respect the chairman. I agree with his viewpoints, but this is now to a point where it could be detrimental to his re-election. That's not good.

I specifically like the fact Ford points out in this Duncanville City Council video (forward to 39:32 on the video) that his city is $700,000 in the hole, but that the city council recently subsidized Options Real Estate's Monte Anderson (brainchild of that massive and beautiful Mid-Towne development in Midlothian) for condos in the central part of the city for the same amount.
